In response to the PSA amendments of 2011, GAO reviewed permitting processes for both interstate and intrastate natural gas pipeline projects given the recent increase in pipelines needed to manage the growth in domestic natural gas production.  While the report does not make any particular recommendations, it does examine the various permit processes necessary to construct natural gas pipelines, the timeframes involved, as well as identify various management practices that may help improve the efficiency of the permitting processes.  GAO addressed both federal and state regulatory schemes (for 11 states) in its analysis and consulted with industry and public interest groups in preparing its report.  Click here for a summary of the report and to access the full report.
